We are proud to offer this unique item that is manufactured by John Sinton at our location.  John has been making wood produces for Japanese Embroidery for 20 plus years. He is a master woodworker with decades of experience on many types of projects, including furniture, tool for Japanese embroidery, cabinets, boxes, etc.

This traditional Japanese style lamp box is used to cast controlled light on a particular part of the embroidery canvas.  The light box is painted white inside to help disperse uniform light toward the canvas directly in front of the lamp box.  Light is provide by an LED puck with four light output settings: off, 6 LEDs, 9 LEDs and 15 LEDs.  The LEDs produce cool white light similar to daylight.  The maximum illumination is the equivalent of a 40 W incandescent bulb.  The puck is powered by three AA batteries (no provided) which can be relatively easily replaced.  Our simple test ran the puck on full output (15 LEDs) for 24 continuous hours without any reduction in light output so it the batteries should provide many hours of light.  

Our goal in making this lamp box was to improve on a commonly used cardboard version by reducing the weight, increase strength of the box, and eliminate the bulky, corded standard light socket and bulb.  This lamp box achieves all of those desired outcomes.  The combined weight of the lamb box, puck and three batteries is about 10 Oz (about 270 grams).  At full light output heat is simply no longer a factor.  The wooden box is both lighter weight and stronger than the cardboard version.  It is finished with high quality materials that should last for many years or decades.
